The Economy Minister, Juan Andrés Fontaine, announced the appointment of the lawyer Matías Mori Arellano as the new Executive Vicepresident of the Foreign Investment Committee (CINVER).
Mori took his undergraduate degree in law at the Catholic University of Chile and holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree from the Law School of the University of Chicago and a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government where he was awarded the Luksic and Mason scholarships.
The Executive Vice-president of the Foreign Investment Committee has worked as a lawyer at Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle LLP and Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton in New York as well as at Freshfields, Bruckhaus, Deringer LLP in Paris and Prieto y Cía. in Santiago, Chile.
His professional experience is primarily in corporate law where he has worked on bond placements and the negotiation of syndicated loans on behalf of Chilean state enterprises and overseas companies. In addition, he has advised state companies and private investors on projects in the hydrocarbons sector.
Mori has also participated in litigation before international courts, representing foreign investors and recipient countries as well as sovereign states in territorial disputes.
His professional career was distinguished by Latin Lawyer magazine in 2008. He was mentioned as one of the lead 40 Latin American lawyers working in New York.
In his capacity as Executive Vice-President of the Foreign Investment Committee, his mission will be to promote Chile internationally as an attractive destination for foreign direct investment and to administer foreign investment contracts signed under Chile’s DL 600 Foreign Investment Statute, as well as other related matters.
